Paducah School of Art and Design Opens Permutations April 25

Exhibition of Works from Survival Skills Class

Paducah, KY (04/20/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Paducah School of Art & Design (PSAD) will open Permutations, an exhibition of artworks by students currently enrolled in its survival skills for artists class. The public is invited to attend an opening reception for the exhibition April 25 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. in PJC Gallery on the second floor of the 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street.

Permutations complements Desedamas, an American Quilter's Society exhibition, that will be on display in the Bill Ford Gallery, also located in the 2D and Graphic Design Building. There will also be a poetry reading by Kentucky poets Sarah McCartt-Jackson and Jayne Moore Waldrop in the Bill Ford Gallery at 7 p.m. All events are free and open to the community.

The survival skills for artists class is taught by PSAD's professor of drawing Randy Simmons. Participating students in this year's exhibition are Logan Andrews, Lillian Hillebrand, Steve Hotard, and Kerrie Pullen. Now in its seventh year, the exhibition includes drawing, photography, collage, sculpture, metals, ceramics, painting. The survival skills class is designed to prepare students for their next step into the art world, teach them to prepare their portfolios to best represent themselves, and how to professionally display their work in a public venue. The class also teaches skills in photographing artwork, safe studio practices, and marketing strategies.

Permutations and Desedamas will be on display from April 24 - April 27. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Paducah School of Art and Design offers an associate in fine arts degree in visual art and an associate in applied science degree and certificate programs in visual communication: multimedia, as well as studio art classes for students of all levels and disciplines. Classes are offered on WKCTC's campus; at 905 Harrison Street; and at 919 Madison Street.
