Local Students' Artwork Chosen for Challenger Learning Center at Paducah's New Year's Card Cover and Calendar

Paducah, KY (01/08/2018) — Sophi Park, a sixth grader from Hopkinsville's University Heights Academy created the patch that has been chosen to be on the front cover of the Challenger Learning Center (CLC) at Paducah's 2018 New Year's Card. Framed copies of the card were presented to the Park during a special presentation at the school January 5.

Park created the patch last year in Tracie Atwood's science class as one way to prepare for the class trip to the center to fly a simulated space mission to the moon.

"Sophi's patch depicts a very realistic astronaut on a moon mission. It's a great representation of the American space program - past and future," said Mellisa Duncan, CLC director.

The cards are sent to the contributors and patrons of the center including teachers, superintendents, legislators, campers, board members and donors. A card is also sent to the White House.

The CLC also chooses eleven other patches to include in its annual calendar. The schools and students represented in the calendar include:

"This is the 11th year we have produced a calendar and we are very proud to be able to showcase our students' artwork in such a useable format for all to see," said Duncan.
