New arts transfer agreement between Murray State University and West Kentucky Community and Technical College Signed

Paducah, KY (01/29/2019) — Dr. Bob Jackson, interim president of Murray State University and Dr. Anton Reece, president of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, signed a new arts transfer articulation agreement between the two colleges, officials announced today.

The signing was held in the Bill Ford Gallery located in WKCTC's Paducah School of Art and Design's 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street in Lowertown Paducah.

The new transfer agreement will provide a seamless transfer of credits for Associate in Fine Arts degree graduates at WKCTC to obtain a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Murray State, increasing the educational opportunities for Kentucky students.

"The new transfer agreement reflects an ongoing commitment to comprehensive higher education opportunities between two nationally ranked institutions," said Dr. Reece. "Today Dr. Jackson and I pursued two very important objectives, which is ensuring that art graduates will have a seamless pathway between WKCTC and MSU to expand their knowledge and creativity further, and an opportunity to recruit and retain outstanding artists to and in our area to bolster economic development opportunities through the arts".

Dr. Jackson agreed.

"Partnerships such as today's announcement between both institutions are critical as we continue to work together for the betterment of our students and region," said Murray State Interim President Dr. Bob Jackson. "We are very appreciative to WKCTC for their collaboration and efforts towards securing this agreement, and we look forward to many future students receiving their degree."

Officials from both institutions, along with community members and students joined the presidents in the Bill Ford Gallery for the signing of the new transfer.

"PSAD provides the first two years of a strong educational experience with qualified and highly talented faculty, and the agreement provides a sound basis for a bachelor's degree in art as recognized by Murray State University," said PSAD director, Paul Aho.

David Balthrop, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Murray State, added, "The College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Department of Art and Design are very pleased to have this agreement in place with West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Paducah School of Art and Design. This partnership will allow students to move easily between our campuses and curricula."
