Students Honor WKCTC President At Inauguration Kickoff

Dr. Anton Reece To Be Installed As WKCTC President April 21

Paducah, KY (04/17/2017) — More than 200 faculty, staff and students enjoyed Caribbean-themed music and food as part of a celebration Monday to honor Dr. Anton R. Reece, president of West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

WKCTC's Student Government Association sponsored the event as a kickoff for Dr. Reece's upcoming inauguration celebration. The inauguration, which is opened to the public, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, and marks the official installing of Dr. Reece as WKCTC president.

Dr. Reece succeeded Dr. Barbara M. Veazey in October 2016, becoming WKCTC's second president. A native of Barbados, Dr. Reece began his higher education career in Paducah as coordinator of minorities affairs. He was later named dean of student affairs at what was then called Paducah Community College. In 2003, Dr. Reece joined the administrative team at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where he was associate vice provost of academic affairs.

Mayfield resident Dallas McKinney, president of WKCTC's Student Government Association(SGA), presented Dr. Reece with a joint proclamation from the city of Paducah and McCracken County and other honors. Dr. Reece told students how incredibly blessed he felt to be back in Paducah and able to make a difference in his community. "I'm very touched by all of this," he told the crowd. "This is a special time and I'm looking forward to this, the next chapter in the history of West Kentucky Community and Technical College."

McKinney also announced the upcoming officers for SGA. They were Gavin Posey, president; Seyi Aro, vice president and Emily Strasser, secretary, all of Paducah.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. in the Clemens Fine Arts Theatre. A reception in the student center will follow the ceremony.
