WKCTC and McCracken County Public Schools Partner for free GED and college prep classes

Five-week classes begin at Reidland Middle School April 16

Paducah, KY (04/13/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Skills U is partnering with McCracken Public Schools' 21st Century Community Learning Center to offer free GED and college preparation courses beginning April 16.

The free classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks, ending May 16, at Reidland Middle School in the 21st Century Building. The building is located in the back parking lot next to the football field.

"We are excited to collaborate with the McCracken's 21st Century Community Learning Centers for these classes," said Tammy Maines, WKCTC Skills U director. "No matter how long someone has been out of school, it's never too late to begin their education. This partnership provides those who need to earn a GED and prepare for college the opportunity to start now."

Earning a GED gives adults of all ages a way to demonstrate competency equivalent to a high school diploma, and the GED test is designed to measure major academic skills and knowledge in language arts reading, language arts writing, social studies, science, and math.

"Instructors are ready to help attendees with their specific academic needs in preparing for the GED test," said Maines.

She said anyone who can't make it the classes between April 16 and May 16 at Reidland Middle School are welcome to come to WKCTC for GED classes at their convenience. The GED preparation classes are also free at WKCTC and are held in the Skills U office in the Anderson Technical Building.
