WKCTC Diagnostic Sonography Program students recently received donation from Paducah Kiwanis Club

Paducah, KY (11/23/2019) — Diagnostic Medical Sonography students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College recently received a $2,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Paducah for volunteer work they had done during this year's BBQ on the River.

"We are honored to have received this donation. We appreciate the Kiwanis Club of Paducah rewarding the students for their volunteer work and allowing them to participate in an event that will help them pay for their board exam fees. That's a big deal for them," said Nichole Toon, Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program coordinator.

The purpose of WKCTC's DMS program is to prepare qualified individuals who, by virtue of training in both theory and practice, are proficient in the areas of abdominal, obstetric/gynecological, and vascular ultrasonography. The funds from the Kiwanis Club of Paducah donation will assist in achieving this goal by helping to pay the students' costs associated with examinations for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

According to its website, BBQ on the River is one of many events the Kiwanis Club of Paducah participates in each year. Since its beginning in 1939, the club has given100% of the money raised to charity, giving thousands of dollars to local students through scholarships funds and over $100,000 to St. Nicolas Clinic thanks to the BBQ on the River. The clubs workers are all local and volunteers.
