WKCTC Events to Celebrate Black History Month

Events Open to Public

Paducah, KY (02/02/2018) — WKCTC Events to Celebrate Black History MonthWest Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) will celebrate Black History Month with two events open to the public February 12 and 15.

Local singer Amanda Wilson will perform "A Journey Through Trials and Triumphs: A Compilation of African American Songs that Demonstrated Strength and Faith Throughout History" February 12 at 11 a.m. in the WKCTC Student Center. The event is free.

Wilson's musical journey began at an early age in Chicago, Ill. Her singing credits include singing with artists such as Monique Whittington, New Direction, A Different Sound, Bryan Wilson and New City Mass Youth Choir. She is an active member of Paducah's Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church where she provides leadership for all musical entities at the church. In January of 2018, Wilson introduced herself, as a solo artist named, Amanda Joyce, and released her first single entitled, "Be Free."

WKCTC is partnering with Maiden Alley Cinema to present the movie Hidden Figures February 15.

The movie reveals the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson - brilliant African-American women who worked at NASA and served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glen into orbit.

A free reception at Maiden Alley Cinema, located at 112 Maiden Alley in Paducah, will be held from 5:15-5:45 p.m. with the film beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $7.75 for adults, $5.75 for senior citizens and $5.25 for children and students. The event is sponsored by the WKCTC Diversity and Inclusion Office.
