WKCTC Kicks Off Seniors Learning for Fun Program Thursday

Parkinson's Disease Topic of Thursday's Presentation

MEDIA RELEASE: Paducah, KY (08/22/2017) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Seniors Learning for Fun Program begins this Thursday with a new season of offerings for senior learners.

Participants are encouraged to register for the variety of program offerings, which begin August 24 and run through December 5. Individuals can register for one or all courses for $30.

Thursday's class will be held in WKCTC's Emerging Technology Center, Room 109 at 2 p.m. Neurologist Dr. Jimmy Couch will speak about Parkinson's disease, including symptoms, when to seek diagnosis and treatments-medications. The presentation will also cover the latest research and how to find clinical trials and how to become part of a clinical trial.

Throughout the season, participants can also:

  • meet Mayor Harless and discuss her tenure as mayor and learn about current project and initiatives relative to the city of Paducah;
  • visit the Paducah School of Art and Design;
  • learn about the importance of food safety and how to protect yourself and others from food borne illnesses in the home and at outings;
  • take a tour of Whitehaven during the holiday season; and more.

Participants can also sign up for a trip to the Shawnee National Forest on October 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A staff member from the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service will give a historical, geological, and managerial overview of the magnificent forest that includes 280,000 acres of un-glaciated areas known as the Ozark and Shawnee Hills. The trip is an additional cost of $40 per person, which includes bus fare and lunch at Giant City State Park Lodge in southern Illinois. Space is limited to first 56 registered.

Programs are scheduled based on the number of people registered. No registration confirmations will be mailed. Participants will be notified if programs are full or cancelled.
