WKCTC Leads State in KCTCS Giving Day, Raising Most Funds and Emergency Support Gifts

College tops statewide leaderboard during second-annual 24-hour campaign

Paducah, KY (04/18/2025) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) emerged as the top performer in the second annual Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Giving Day, raising the highest total amount of donations and the most gifts designated for student emergency funds.

Held on April 16, the 24-hour initiative rallied more than 1,100 donors across 28 states and 91 Kentucky counties, contributing over $350,000 to support KCTCS students statewide. WKCTC led all 16 KCTCS colleges in total dollars raised and in donations directed specifically to emergency aid - vital funding that helps students overcome unexpected financial setbacks.

"This outpouring of generosity from our WKCTC family and community is truly inspiring," said WKCTC President Anton Reece. "These gifts help our students stay in school, stay focused and succeed. They're not just dollars - they're second chances and stepping stones to a better future."

The funds raised will support student-focused initiatives such as need-based scholarships, food pantry operations, emergency assistance, and enrichment opportunities.

KCTCS President Ryan Quarles praised the systemwide effort, noting the importance of the support: "Your contributions are more than just gifts; they are lifelines and launchpads for students striving toward brighter futures."

WKCTC staff were also recognized with coffee and donuts in celebration of their contributions and spirit throughout Giving Day.

A systemwide push for increased participation this year resulted in a 28% jump in total gifts over last year's Giving Day. KCTCS reported that faculty, staff and retirees accounted for 64% of donors, followed by alumni (22%), community supporters (17%), board members (7%), and students (5%).
