Dallas McKinney of Mayfield Named a 2016-2017 WKCTC Student Ambassador

Dallas McKinney of Mayfield, KY is one of 15 students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College who will serve as a student ambassador during the 2016-17 academic year.

The WKCTC Student Ambassador program is designed to attract qualified, enthusiastic, committed student leaders who will volunteer to serve as role models and mentors to fellow students. They serve on college outreach, student engagement, recruitment and college support teams by motivating WKCTC students, alumni and the community to embrace the mission and vision of the college.

This year's WKCTC student ambassadors are (listed below by county residence:

Kentucky Calloway County - David O'Neal

Fulton County - Alexa Irvin

Livingston County - Jessica Alexander

Graves County - Yesenia Bernabe, Angela Elmore, Dallas McKinney, Jessica Newsome

McCracken County - JoAnna Asbury, Nikki Harshman, Nicholas Jagielo, Samuel Omokodhe, Jodi Powers, Sholola Oluwaseun, Shellon Troutt

Dr. Belinda Dalton-Russell, WKCTC vice president of student development and student ambassador program director, said the ambassador program develops student pride, confidence and loyalty, as well as promotes campus spirit and builds effective student leaders. "Ambassadors have the opportunity to distinguish themselves as rising leaders of the community by helping to shape the college through volunteerism," Russell said. "Our student ambassadors volunteer for numerous campus and community events, providing students and the public with information about all facets of campus life, academic programs, faculty and students, physical facilities, social opportunities and student services and more."

To serve as a WKCTC student ambassador, students must:

  • be currently enrolled at the college;
  • have good academic and disciplinary standing;
  • have completed 12 semester credit hours;
  • have earned and maintained a 2.5 CGPA or above;
  • submit a completed application and declaration of commitment.
  • have exemplary letter(s) of recommendation from WKCTC faculty, staff, or appointed by vice president of student development, or Student Government Association;
  • demonstrate positive attitude, enthusiasm, strong work ethics, and ability to work as a team;
  • have good character and ability to represent WKCTC in an exemplary manner;
  • exhibit commitment, leadership, and ability to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position;
  • interview with the vice president of student development, student activities coordinator and ambassador selection committee;
  • complete student development ambassadors training/meeting module.

"With the student ambassador program, we always strive to help students cultivate personal growth and cultural fellowships, and expand their educational experience by encouraging involvement in co-curricular activities that can lead them to the path of success," said Russell.
