2017 Nov 17

Edson Blanco of Mayfield knew he wanted to find a career he could enjoy when he traveled to Kentucky and decided to attend West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

"I like cars and learning new things about them," Blanco told the audience during the November 16 ceremony naming the Collision Repair Technology Classroom at WKCTC in memory of B.A. Hamilton.Hamilton, a local businessman and founder of the collision repair technology program at WKCTC, died on January 26, 2017, at the age of 79.

Craig Dickerson, collision repair technology program coordinator and part-time I-CAR instructor, said the collision repair technology program which was founded by Hamilton in 1962, continues to be an instrumental part of student success. "We want to be a stepping stone to a better career for these students," Dickerson told the audience at the Hamilton dedication. "We want our graduates to be successful. And we want to provide the necessary tools to make that possible."

Blanco said he has relatives who work in auto body shops and encouraged him. "They make good money. It's easy to find employment and it's not seasonal like other jobs," he said.

Blanco said he wants to continue to learn new things through WKCTC's collision repair technology program. "I wanted to thank Mr. Hamilton for starting this program because if it wasn't for him, not only me but many other students, would not have benefited today. I wanted to thank him for giving me this opportunity and education. And he knows I'm trying my best."
