Emma Furches Helps College Recognize Area Surgical Technologists

2017 Sep 19

In recognition of National Surgical Technologists Week - Sept. 17 - 23, 2017, Emma Furches of Hazel was one of several surgical technology students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College who prepared cookie trays to take to all six of the health care sites where WKCTC students receive their clinical training.

In 1984, the Association of Surgical Technologists Board of Directors dedicated the third week in September to recognizing surgical technologists and the surgical technology profession.

Surgical technologists serve as an integral part of the surgical team providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures.

Students in WKCTC's Surgical Technology program can earn an associate in applied science degree in surgical technology in a minimum of four semesters. The training includes mandatory clinical experience in area hospitals or outpatient surgery centers.
