2015 Oct 13

Lawrence Johnson of Hampton, GA, is one of ten West Kentucky Community and Technical College students recently named to the college's 2015-2016 West Kentucky Stars club basketball team.

The West Kentucky Stars basketball team at WKCTC kicks off its season with the second annual Pink-Out Celebration to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 22 in Haws Gym.

The celebration begins at 5:45 p.m. with games, music and a candy give-away.

"This is our second Pink-Out event during the Stars' first home game of the season as a way to show our continued support for breast cancer awareness," said Amy Elmore, WKCTC student activities coordinator. "We ask everyone in the community to join us by wearing pink to the game and participating in the Pink-Out activities to support the fight against cancer."

The game begins at 7 p.m. in Haws Gym when the Stars take on Bethel University. Game tickets are $5, but as part of the Pink-Out event, children under twelve wearing pink get in free and adults wearing pink get in for $3. Season tickets will also be on sale during the event; general admission tickets are $30.

The Stars will play 30 games this season with 13 home games in Haws Gym on the WKCTC campus. The full schedule is available online at http://westkentucky.kctcs.edu/en/Student_Life/Sports_Activities/Basketball.aspx .

The Stars team members are: Pablo Bianchi of Jundiai, Brazil, Ben Dix of Stanton, Tenn., Kilder Gonzalez of Campbellsville, Ky., Lawrence Johnson of Paducah, Zach Kimbler of Mayfield, Ky., Anthony Lee of St. Louis, Mo., Andy Walquist of Belknap, Ill., Damajauan (DJ) Washington of Henderson, Ky., Kevin Welch of Paducah, and Jake Williams of Lexington, Ky.

"I promise this year's team will be fun and exciting to watch. We have a collection of athletes this year that can get up and down the floor and play above the rim. They know that they give 100% effort or they don't play," said Michael Chumbler, West Kentucky Stars head coach. "I sincerely hope the public will come out to support these young men and also the great cause of Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
