Sarah Ladd of Bardwell is one of 85 WKCTC Students Recognized at 2017 Honors Ceremony

2017 May 11

Sarah Ladd of Bardwell is one of 85 West Kentucky Community and Technical College students recognized at the 2017 Honors Ceremony that was held in the college's Clemens Fine Arts Center May 4.

During the ceremony, Ladd was recognized as one of two WKCTC students selected as a member of the 2017 All-USA Academic Team. Ladd's fellow student Yesenia Bernabe of Mayfield was also named to the All-USA Academic Team.

The All-USA Academic Team is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today, and the American Association of Community Colleges. All-USA Academic Team members represent the highest level of achievement in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and the ability to extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.

"I feel extremely honored and humbled to be chosen for such an honor. This whole journey has been so rewarding, and to be recognized for hard work is a nice reflection on all the teachers who have poured into me so selflessly," said Ladd. " I am a first generation college kid, so I consider this to be an embodiment of all one can accomplish against the odds. If I can do this, anyone can!"

Ladd was also recognized as a member of the college's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and for the Excellence in Humanities Award during the May 4 ceremony.

Following graduation from WKCTC this May, Ladd plans to continue her education to study journalism at the University of Kentucky this fall.

Honor recipients enjoyed time with their family and friends during a reception in the college's Student Center following the ceremony.
