Fiber Art Exhibition Opens at WKCTC's Paducah School of Art and Design March 7
Public Invited to Free Opening Reception
Paducah, KY (03/03/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) opens "Living Room-Recent Works" by Lexie Abra Millikan, an exhibition of fiber and installation artworks March 7. Living Room opens with a free reception between 5-6:30 p.m. in the Bill Ford Gallery at PSAD's 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street.
Lexie Millikan is the fiber artist-in-residence at PSAD and executive director at the Yeiser Art Center. She relocated to Paducah from Kansas City, where she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in the Fiber Department of the Kansas City Art Institute and afterward served as technician and lecturer. As artist-in-residence at PSAD, Milliken teaches fibers classes in its Community Education Program and continues to support other community activities at the art school. The show's title, Living Room, is a play on "A Room of One's Own," and also refers to the home and gender roles in her work.
This solo exhibition is complemented by an exhibition in PSAD's Alcove Galleries of artworks by participants in the McCracken County 21st Century Program. Included are 21st Century Community Centers at Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary, Reidland Elementary, Heath Middle, Lone Oak Middle, Reidland Intermediate, Reidland Middle, and McCracken County High schools.
PSAD will host an opening reception for the 21st Century exhibition March 12 from 5-7 p.m. Both exhibitions will remain on display through April 18. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission is free.
"As with other exhibitions this year celebrating our tenth anniversary, "Living Room" continues our focus on individuals and groups with ties to the art school," says PSAD Director Paul Aho. "Lexie came to Paducah to spend more time in the studio and has been a terrific fit with the community and an asset to PSAD. We are proud to host this exhibition and present a decidedly contemporary approach to fiber art in the Ford Gallery."
