Former Carlisle County Schools Superintendent Elected to WKCTC Board
Paducah, KY (10/13/2022) — The former Carlisle County Schools Superintendent Jay Simmons was elected the chair of the West Kentucky Community and Technical College Board of Directors during a recent board meeting, college officials announced Thursday, October 13.
"We've got a great team," Simmons said after being elected at a board meeting Tuesday, October 11. "I just want to make sure we keep doing the good work we're doing. I'm honored to be a part of the great work going on at this college."
Simmons of Mayfield recently retired after working 28 years in education, the last nine years as superintendent. He succeeded Charles "Chuck" Murphy of Hickman as the board chair. Other officers re-elected were Barry McDonald of Mayfield, vice-chair, and Gorman "Butch" Bradley of Paducah, secretary.
The 10-member board is composed of seven community leaders appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and three members consisting of elected representatives from WKCTC faculty, staff and student body. Other board members are Kenneth Hurt of Paducah, Erika Ann Mehta of Paducah, WKCTC student Lexie Harned of Paducah, WKCTC Student Government Association president; WKCTC faculty representative Heather Coltharp of Paducah, and WKCTC staff representative Summer Holland of Benton.
During the board meeting, WKCTC President Anton Reece recognized Lee Emmons, vice president of institutional advancement. Emmons, who has been at the college for nearly six years, has accepted a new position with the University of Kentucky. Emmons, who also served as executive director of Paducah Junior College, Inc., the foundation for WKCTC, was also recognized at a recent PJC meeting.
"I look forward to continuing to work in higher education and continuing to work to make access and opportunities in higher education possible for students," Emmons told the board.
