Paducah, KY (09/21/2018) — Kentucky Community and Technical College will kick off its Sustainability Month with Paducah City Manager James Arndt speaking on campus Monday, October 1 from 11 a.m. to noon in Waller Hall, Room 112. He will share about his duties and responsibilities as city manager and plans for the City of Paducah especially as they related to sustainable development. The event is free and open to the public.
"We are excited to have Mr. Arndt on campus to kick off our Sustainability Month activities for October," said Ms. Bobby Ann Lee, WKCTC biology professor and sustainability project coordinator. "We look forward to his visit and talk, which with his position as city manager cover all three pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environmental."
Other sustainability activities WKCTC has planned throughout the month include a student club contest. The competition encourages students and others in our community to pledge to increasing their local and global awareness and their personal efforts in sustainability. This includes reducing and recycling of environmental resources, respect for social multiculturalism and diversity, and economic development with future generations in mind.
The student club that gets the most online pledges will win a $100 to go toward their club activities and events. Individuals will also win sustainability prizes by pledging. The WKCTC campus will have a unique recycling project throughout the month of October. Large recycling containers will be placed in the quad area by Haws Gym. Campus recyclables will be stored here for the entire month to visually see and estimate the weight of material we recycle monthly.
All recycled materials will be taken to the recycling facility located at 400 State Street.
