WKCTC MACKENZIE SCOTT OPPORTUNITIES SCHOLARSHIP (S.O.S.)
Opportunity for students under 25
Paducah, KY (07/28/2022) — The MacKenzie Scott Opportunities Scholarship (S.O.S.) will help new students who are under 25 attend West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC), officials announced today.
"We're delighted to make this scholarship available," said Lee Emmons, WKCTC vice president of institutional advancement. "We hope it will help those who may have been hesitant about starting college due to financial concerns make the decision to enroll in classes now, knowing they will have significant help through the S.O.S. Scholarship."
The need-based scholarship will be offered beginning in Fall 2022 and will fund up to $2,000 per student for the 2022-23 academic year. Helping to pay tuition, fees, and materials, the S.O.S will assist students who may not qualify for enough federal and state funding to cover these expenses. Funding is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis for students aged 18-24 who qualify. Fall 2022 classes begin August 15.
To qualify to receive the S.O.S., students must:
- Enter WKCTC as a first-time student without an associate degree or higher;
- Be admitted to WKCTC as a degree-seeking student;
- Be no older than 24 years of age on August 15, 2022 (students 25 and older are encouraged to apply for the Adult Promise Scholarship);
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the first day of the first semester enrolled;
- Complete Work Ready Scholarship application (if applicable);
- Enroll and complete at least six credit hours for each semester;
- Maintain a 2.0 or above GPA;
- Must enroll in WKCTC courses;
- Must show financial need as determined by S.O.S. guidelines that can be found on the WKCTC website.(https://westkentucky.kctcs.edu/affording-college/paying-for-college/scholarships/Mackenzie-Scott-Opportunities-Scholarship.aspx)
The S.O.S. is made possible with funding from the 2020 donation to WKCTC from philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott through the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) and part of the seven-sector framework of The WKCTC Guarantee.
