WKCTC Partners with Family Scholar House and Mercy Health to Provide Resource Kiosk for Student and Community Support
Paducah, KY (10/30/2024) — Paducah, KY - West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) is excited to announce a new partnership with Family Scholar House and Mercy Health to bring expanded support services to WKCTC students and the wider community. Through this collaboration, a MyKY.info resource kiosk has been installed in WKCTC's Matheson Resource Center on the Paducah campus. Sponsored through funding provided by the Mercy Health Foundation, the kiosk is one of 11 placed across Western Kentucky to increase access to essential resources.
"We are thrilled to partner with Mercy Health in this resource kiosk," said Chase Durrance, WKCTC's Dean of Students. "Our Get Help project offers WKCTC students some basic needs support, but-unfortunately-we can't meet all needs. The Family Scholar House kiosk helps supplement this need and allows students to advocate for themselves. We are thankful to have a kiosk on campus!"
The MyKY.info kiosk serves as a valuable community resource, connecting individuals to local services for basic needs such as food, housing assistance, healthcare, financial and legal aid, and educational support. In addition to helping students, the kiosk is accessible to community members seeking assistance.
Each kiosk provides a user-friendly interface that opens with a "For You" dial, allowing users to personalize their search by filtering resources according to gender, age, family status, and other demographics. For those looking to explore all available options, a "Services Dial" offers direct access to an array of icons representing everyday needs. Selecting an icon opens additional resource options tailored to the community's needs. Additionally, urgent need buttons on the screen provide immediate links to crisis lines, safe places, and live help through Family Scholar House's Trager Response Center.
The kiosks are also designed to be accessible to a diverse population, offering language support in English, Spanish, and French to ensure that language barriers do not hinder access to vital resources.
This partnership highlights WKCTC's commitment to addressing student and community needs and is a testament to Family Scholar House and Mercy Health's dedication to connecting individuals with supportive services across Western Kentucky.
