WKCTC Recognizes Student Leaders and Student Organizations

Paducah, KY (05/06/2019) — More than 30 student leaders at West Kentucky Community and Technical College were recently recognized during the Student Services Red Carpet Student Leader Celebration.

Emily Peck, WKCTC vice president of student services, said the event recognized student leaders at WKCTC for their exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to service. Several clubs, student organizations and advisors were recognized during the event.

Tanya Neitzke of Metropolis, Il., a faculty member at Paducah School of Art and Design, was named Outstanding Club Advisor. Neitzke is the co-advisor to the Student Art & Design club. She was instrumental in a very successful art exhibit honoring the legacy of local African-Americans earlier this year.

Other awards were:

• The Rising Star Award given to the WKCTC Student Green club for their efforts in supporting sustainability on campus and in the community. Club advisor is Dr. Bobby Ann Lee.
• The Campus Impact Award awarded to the Student Art & Design club for their many activities including Mask Painting and Paper Mache Mask Making with the Hispanic Culture club, Doodle Dayz at Clemens Art Gallery, and in celebration of Black History Month, two portrait-painting workshops for historical African-Americans of Paducah. The workshops resulted in a celebratory unveiling of 22 portraits in downtown Paducah. Art & Design Club advisors are Emily Esau and Tanya Neitzke.
• The Community Outreach Award given to the Early Childhood Educators' club for their work with community outreach, including participating in the Buddy Walk for Downs Syndrome and Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida, providing crafts for children at the Market House Theatre Street Fair, organizing Read Across America Dr. Seuss Celebration at Matheson Library, and hosting a Kindergarten Ready Fair at WKCTC. Club advisor is Greta Henry.
• The Collaboration Award given to the Hispanic Culture club for providing engaging activities for WKCTC students in cooperation with other clubs and departments on campus. Club advisors are Carolyn Perry, professor of Spanish, and Victor Taveras, associate professor of physics.
• The Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to WKCTC's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter. PTK is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs, particularly state colleges and community colleges. This year WKCTC's PTK chapter had a goal of a 3-star rating level in a 5-star process and was honored to earn a 4-star recognition - a first for the WKCTC's PTK. Club advisors are Dr. Kevin Gericke and Carolyn Perry.
• The Making a Difference Award was given to WKCTC's Alpha Epsilon Beta chapter for making a significant impact on society. WKCTC's Alpha Epsilon Beta chapter has raised more than $15,000 for Child Watch of McCracken County through its annual 5K Justice Run and Walk. Club advisors are Gary Reese, Leah Beach and Melissa Durbin.
