WKCTC Sonography Club providing free ultrasound exams to stock campus food pantry
Paducah, KY (10/28/2024) — On October 29 the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) student club at WKCTC will host its annual Sound Off for Hunger event to once again help students at the college who need assistance for the Thanksgiving holiday. The club is offering a variety of free non-diagnostic ultrasound exams to those who bring a needed food item for WKCTC's food pantry, the Campus Cupboard.
Pantry items can be dropped off and exams will be performed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Barbara M. Veazey Health Sciences Building, Room W105. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins welcome.
Pantry items needed include canned foods, toiletries, laundry and dish detergent, paper products, and pantry staples such as peanut butter, jelly and saltine crackers. Volunteers are asked to bring at least one pantry item for entry to the lab. No donation is too small.
Exams and schedule are:
8 to 11 a.m. - vascular, abdominal, and obstetric scans
11 a.m. to noon - lunch for students
Noon to 2 p.m. - vascular, abdominal, and obstetric scans
Those who volunteer for the exams will be asked to sign a consent form upon arrival. For an obstetric scan, the volunteer must already have had a normal ultrasound performed and provide a note from a doctor's office stating permission to be scanned.
