WKCTC Student Wins Business Award at State Competition

Next Stop, National Conference in California

WKCTC MEDIA RELEASE: Paducah, KY (04/12/2017) — Paducah's Austin Knapp, a Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) student at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, made his family and WKCTC proud at the 2017 State Leadership Conference held at Madisonville Community College April 8-9.

Knapp, PBL chapter president at WKCTC, competed in the Contemporary Sports Issues event and won third place in the state event. He is now eligible to attend, compete and represent WKCTC in the National Leadership Conference this June in Anaheim, Calif.

"Austin did so well in this competition, and we are all so proud of him. We have no doubt he will do great at nationals too," said Tiffinee Morgan, WKCTC Office Systems Technology professor and Phi Beta Lambda advisor.

Knapp is the son of Ken and JoAnn Knapp. JoAnn Knapp is the Medial and Information Technology program coordinator at WKCTC.

Colleges and universities from across Kentucky participate in the annual state competition. In addition to WKCTC, the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, University of Pikeville, Alice Lloyd College, Georgetown College, Madisonville Community College, and Elizabethtown Community and Technical College participated in this year's competition.

PBL is a non-profit educational association for students preparing for careers in business, entrepreneurial or business-related fields. The association prepares students for employment by promoting business leadership, increasing understanding of American free enterprise, establishing career goals, encouraging scholarship, promoting efficient money management, and developing character and self-confidence.
