WKCTC Summer Camps Include Basketball, Wrestling, Drama and Hooked on Science

Paducah, Kentucky (03/09/2017) — It’s time to register for more summer camps at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. The June – July offerings include camps for the basketball lover and ones that help students develop their creative side.

A 10% discount is offered if one or more children are registered for a camp or if a child is registered for multiple camps.

Off-Season Wrestling Conditioning Camp - June 5 – 9, 9 a.m. – noon
Haws Gym
Age: 5 - 12 grade

Off-Season Wrestling Conditioning is a summer camp that provides exercises to scholastic wrestlers interested in gaining and maintaining power, explosiveness, endurance, agility, and flexibility during the off-season. Principles and strategies in the form of physical games and activities are stressed in this camp, utilizing efficient and effective methods of coordination that do not rely on size and strength.

Basketball Camp - June 12 – 14, 8:30 a.m. – noon
Haws Gym
Age: 2 – 5 grade
Cost: $65

This is a fundamental basketball camp that teaches the basics of the game of basketball, both offensively and defensively. Different levels of instruction will be offered based on prior experience. This will be a fun interactive camp that will allow young athletes to train and learn from our collegiate athletes. WKCTC’s Coach Mike Chumbler is the leader for these camps.

Basketball Camp - June 12 – 14, 1 – 4:30 p.m.
Haws Gym
Age: 6 – 8 grade
Cost: $65

This camp for sixth-eighth graders teaches the same fundamentals as the morning session for second-fifth graders including offensive and defensive basics and different levels of instruction based on experience. WKCTC’s Coach Mike Chumbler is also the leader for these camps.

Creative Exploration Drama, - July 12 – 16, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Student Center/Theatre
Age: 6 – 12 grade

Learn to be a star actor in this five-day camp. Participants can explore their creative side while being taught the elements of play production and performance. Participants will help design and build the sets for two shows, explore their artistic side in art class and participate in the performances. Lunch provided. Plays will be performed Friday evening June 16.

No Boys Allowed Camp – July 19 – 23, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Allied Health Building
Age: 7 – 12 grade

This camp is designed to give middle school and high school girls an opportunity to explore exciting engineering and scientific fields through demonstrations, classroom presentations, hands-on activities, field trips, contacts with professionals and more in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Lunch provided.

Hooked on Science Academy with Jason Lindsey - July 24 – 28, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Emerging Technology Center, Room 141
Age: 1-5 grades

From engineering a solar car to building a robot, students will spend the week doing some amazing science with Jason Lindsey, a.k.a. “Mr. Science” with Hooked on Science. Lunch provided.
