WKCTC to celebrate Sustainability Month in October

Paducah, KY (09/25/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College will kick off its Sustainability Month October 1 and will a host a variety of activities throughout the month.

WKCTC students, faculty and staff and community members are invited to a viewing of an HBO documentary by the Redford Center and to donate to the WKCTC Food Pantry.

The HBO movie, which is free and open to the public, is titled Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution and will be shown in WKCTC's Clemens Fine Arts Theater Center October 25 at 7 p.m. The documentary follows filmmaker Jamie Redford embarking on a colorful personal journey into the dawn of the clean energy era as it creates jobs, turns profits, and makes communities stronger and healthier across the United States. The first 30 attendees will receive a free bag of popcorn.

The community is also asked to participate in the WKCTC Food Pantry Donation Drive by bringing canned and dried items to provide supplemental supplies for currently enrolled WKCTC students. These include items such as canned soup, vegetables, fruits, and meats; boxed oatmeal, rice, mashed potatoes, crackers, cereal, noodles; jars of pasta sauce, fruit cups, cereal bars, peanut butter and jelly; other items such as paper towels and dish soap. The pantry is located in the college's Nemer Building.

WKCTC student clubs will also participate in the Pantry Donation Drive throughout October. Each student group on campus has been assigned a specific food item for the pantry in a friendly competition with prizes awarded at the end of month.

Other activities geared for WKCTC students during October are a Sustainability Scavenger Hunt on campus and a hike through Bell Smith Springs
