WKCTC to Recognize Educators at Second Annual Awards and Scholarship Red Carpet Ceremony March 7
Paducah, KY (03/01/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College is hosting its second annual Regional Educators Awards and Scholarship Program, a red-carpet event to celebrate local educators for going above and beyond each day to make a difference in the lives of students. The event will be held on March 7 at 5 p.m. in the college's Clemens Fine Arts Building.
More than 45, nearly twice as many as honored in the 2018 inaugural year, will be recognized at the event. Each honoree was nominated by students, parents and colleagues for their outstanding service and dedication to education and will be honored on stage during the ceremony in each of the following categories.
- Distinguished Faculty (Pre-K-5th Grade) Award
- Distinguished Faculty (6th-12 Grade) Award
- Distinguished Administrative Award
- Cornelia Reece Unsung Hero Staff Award
Two finalists and an one overall winner will be announced for each category.
The program will include musical selections from Paducah Tilghman High School's a cappela group Prime Rib. Veteran educator Shelia Smith-Anderson will be the evening's keynote speaker. She holds a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University, and many additional distinguished certifications. She holds the esteemed honor of Distinguished Educator for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and currently serves as the Executive Director of Leadership Development for the St. Louis Public School Board of Education.
In conjunction with the awards program, a scholarship continues for WKCTC students interested in K-12 teaching, early childhood education, or educational majors to encourage and assist the region's future educators. The first scholarships were awarded last fall. Funds raised through awards program sponsorships contribute to the Future Educators Scholarship. Sponsors will be recognized during the March 7 program ceremony; they are CFSB, Gold Sponsor; Paducah Junior College Foundation, Silver Partner; CSI, Harper Industries, and UK College of Engineering/Ken Wheeler, Bronze Sponsors. Any individual or corporation may contribute to the fund.
The awards ceremony will be covered through Facebook Live on the WKCTC Facebook page at facebook.com/West.Kentucky.
The media is encouraged to attend.
