WKCTC's Lakin Smith and Emily Swinford Win March Registration Madness Grand Prizes

WKCTC's Lakin Smith and Emily Swinford are this year's March Registration Madness grand prize winners! Lakin won $500 toward 2018 summer tuition and Emily won $750 toward 2018 fall tuition. Lakin and Emily, both of Paducah, received their March Registration Madness grand prize certificates with WKCTC President Dr. Anton Reece on Friday, April 6. Congratulations ladies!

WKCTC Dental Assisting Students Help Area Kids with Dental Care

Dental assisting students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College volunteered to teach local school children how to brush properly and what snacks are good for their teeth at Graves County Middle School's Healthy Me Night on February 8, 2018. PTA Students at WKCTC Donate Skeleton to Program Lab

In early December 2017, WKCTC's 2018 physical therapist assistant graduating class donated a new skeleton to the PTA program to use in its kinesiology lab. The students paid for the skeleton themselves as a Christmas gift to the program! Awesome!

Mexico native Edson A. Blanco of Mayfield described the importance of West Kentucky Community and Technical College's collision repair program to him during the November 16 ceremony naming the Collision Repair Technology Classroom at WKCTC in memory of B.A. Hamilton.

Students Celebrated Success at 2017 GED Graduation Ceremony

Nearly 200 family members, friends and college faculty and staff celebrated the success of twenty-one students who participated in the 2017 GED Graduation in West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Clemens Fine Arts Center May 18. Sixty-four studenrts were elibible to earn their GED from the college's Graves-McCracken County Adult Learning Centers. Congrats to all the GED recipients!

WKCTC Students Attend CIT Security Conference at MSU

Ten WKCTC Computer Information Technology students attended the Patterns of Distinction - Security Matters conference held at Murray State University on April 27. WKCTC student participants from the CIT 180 Introduction to Security class had the opportunity to meet with many local business an industry professionals and talk with other MSU faculty and students. The conference included nationally recognized presenters who discussed topics such as "Threats that Matter", "Organizing Information Security at the State Level", and "Inside the Mind of Hackers".

Ten West Kentucky Community and Technical College physical therapist assistant students attended the state conclave for the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association in Louisville October 1-2, 2016. The conference provides physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students networking opportunities and educational sessions on various topics.

WKCTC March Registration Madness Grand Prize Winner

Jessica Goff won WKCTC's March Registration Madness grand prize - a $500 scholarship! She registered for 2017 summer and fall classes at the college during the March registration event. She was so excited to win! "This is so great; I never win anything." Jessica, a 2013 graduate of Graves County High School, wants to be a nurse and will apply to WKCTC's nursing program this fall. Congratulations Jessica!

Three WKCTC students were selected as winners of the college's spring 2016 One Book Read essay contest. The essays were based on themes in the WKCTC One Book Read of Ron Rash's Saints at the River. WKCTC's Nicholas Jagielo was recently named to the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame. He was one of twelve students in the state to receive the honor. Congratulations Nicholas!

Dental students at WKCTC help promote good oral health maintenance

Twelve dental assisting/dental hygiene students celebrated Dental Hygiene Recognition Month in October 2015. The students set up a booth in the Allied Health Building to promote this year's focus of four components of proper oral health maintenance. The student promoted "Doing the Daily 4" which are: brushing twice a day, flossing daily, rinsing with antimicrobial rinse and chewing sugar-free gum.

WKCTC Students Celebrate Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month

Twenty-three West Kentucky Community and Technical College diagnostic medical sonography (DMS) students celebrated Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) throughout October 2015. The students delivered sweet treats and snacks to their clinical instructors at various clinical sites and celebrated with a potluck luncheon. They also participated in providing hands-on demonstrations to area high school students at WKCTC's 2015 Open House. The first year DMS students hosted a bake sale on campus and raised over $230 to help fund their registry exams. MUAM is held annually in October to create awareness of the role diagnostic medical sonographers play in the medical community and to educate the public about medical ultrasound and its many uses in healthcare.

For the second year, the West Kentucky Stars basketball team at West Kentucky Community and Technical College will support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a Pink-Out event at it's first game set for October 22.

Students Revamp Donated Cruiser for WKCTC Security Department

West Kentucky Community and Technical College's collision repair technology students revamped a donated Paducah Police Department cruiser into the new campus vehicle for the WKCTC Security Department. The students repainted the cruiser that was donated to the college this summer. They also installed various college decals and symbols on the vehicle to complete the new look. The process to update the cruiser took two weeks and was a great training opportunity that fit perfectly with the current painting and refinishing curriculum for the Collision Repair Technology Program, said program coordinator Craig Dickerson. The cruiser has now been added to the WKCTC Security Department's other modes of transportation.

Winborn "Windy" Gregory, a graduate of the WKCTC Automotive Technology Program, recently earned a nationally recognized certification to become an Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile Technician.

WKCTC Students Speak at Fall Commencement

West Kentucky Community and Technical College students Gabriel Crider and Jennifer Davis-Cooley will be the student speakers for 2014 Fall Commencement at the Luther Carson Four Rivers Center December 15. Commencement begins at 7 p.m. The 2014 nursing pinning ceremony will precede commencement at 5 p.m., with 42 nursing students receiving nursing pins representing the completion of the college's Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program.

WKCTC Nursing Student Talks About How Dogs Can Save Lives

WKCTC nursing student Esther Peters will discuss on November 19 as part of the WKCTC Science Series how she trained her dog Gaston to be able to detect her glucose levels and alert her. The WKCTC Science Seminar Series, established in 1985, is sponsored by science faculty members and was initiated to provide a forum for science-related topics not usually covered in the WKCTC curriculum. The series is open to WKCTC students, faculty and staff and community members.
