Paducah School of Art and Design Hosts Taiwan Art Quilts Exhibit

Opening reception 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13

Paducah, KY (09/11/2018) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) will host an exhibition of art quilts from makers in the Taiwan Art Quilt Society (TAQS). The Taiwan Art Quilts exhibition is PSAD's fourth sanctioned collaboration with the American Quilter's Society (AQS) during its internationally renowned Fall and Spring Quilt Weeks in Paducah.

The exhibition opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 12 at PSAD's 2D Graphic Design Building. An opening reception will be held Thursday, September 13, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the Bill Ford Gallery.

Taiwan Art Quilts will run through September 15 and is open to the public between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.

Throughout the duration of Quilt Week, PSAD is included as a stop on the bus tour of AQS venues and activities. Attendees should access the building through the public entrance on Harrison Street.

Taiwan Art Quilt Society (TAQS) is a non-profit organization that promotes quilt art in Taiwan. This exhibit includes several large collaborative quilts based on natural and environmental themes made entirely by hand and individual quilts made by members of TAQS. Recurring subjects in the quilts relate to the island of Taiwan - its flowers, trees, and creatures in the ocean.

"PSAD is delighted to be once again participating as an exhibition venue for this year's Fall Quilt Week in Paducah," said art school director Paul Aho. "Taiwan Quilts Now continues a tradition of international exhibitions that have included Australian, European, and South Korean fine art quilters in previous shows."

The Ford Gallery is located in PSAD's 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street in Lower Town Paducah. Gallery hours during Quilt Week are Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WKCTC offers an associate in fine arts degree in visual art and an associate in applied science degree and certificate programs in visual communication: multimedia, as well as studio art classes for students of all levels and disciplines. Classes are offered on WKCTC's main campus and the PSAD locations at 905 Harrison Street and 919 Madison Street.
