Paducah, KY (10/11/2018) — The community is invited to an open house for the Kentucky Skills U adult education center in Carlisle County October 24 from 2-4 p.m. at 300 Front Street in Bardwell. Kentucky Skills U adult education centers are located in each of the state's 120 counties with West Kentucky Community and Technical College being the fiscal agent for the centers in Carlisle, Graves and McCracken counties.
"I am looking forward to meeting the guests at open house and seeing how we can help them achieve their dream!" said Tammy Maines, Skills U director for Carlisle, Graves and McCracken counties. "This is the perfect opportunity to showcase the Carlisle County Skills U center and to talk with attendees about the wonderful services available for adult students."
Kentucky Skills U (Skills U) centers help to improve an individual's ability to read, write and speak in English and function effectively in the workplace, family and society. All Skills U services are free and provide academic skill-building services for anyone 18 and over to prepare them for college and career. This includes GED® preparation, workplace readiness skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and college placement preparation. Students may even have the opportunity to earn college credit while earning their GED diploma.
GED® preparation and reading instruction helps adult students in improving educational attainment levels and successfully entering employment and continuing education. The instruction may also include life skills, employability skills and digital literacy. ESL instruction is provided to adults who want to become more fluent in English, pass U.S. citizenship tests and work on job-seeking skills.
Skills U programs provide instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRS) to assist unemployed (and under-employed) individuals, as well as individuals seeking to transition to postsecondary education and ultimately employment with family sustainable wages to improve academic and workplace skills.
Skill U centers offer several certificates including:
- GED Diploma,
- Kentucky Essential Skills Certificate (KESC),
- Kentucky Career Readiness Certification (KCRC),
- National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC).
