West Kentucky Stars' Home Game October 25 to Raise Funds for Local Teenager

Paducah, KY (10/19/2017) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College's club basketball team, the West Kentucky Stars, will kick off its season with a home game against Kentucky Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 25 in Haws Gym.

In the past, the Stars have used the first game of the season to support and build awareness of issues like breast cancer. This year, the team hopes to raise funds for 14-year-old Daniel Mathis of Paducah who has Anaplastic non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, said Stars Coach Michael Chumbler. Donations collected during Wednesday's game will go to Daniel and his family.

"Situations like this put things in perspective. We are humbled and honored to be able to do this and to honor a real hero," Chumbler said. "We hope to have a good crowd and help this young man and his family as much as we can."

Admission to the game is $5. Anyone who wears gold to support pediatric cancer awareness will receive a free bag of popcorn.

The Stars will play 25 games this season with 12 home games in Haws Gym on the WKCTC campus. For more information about the team, visit westkentucky.kctcs.edu/student_life/basketball/index.aspx.
