WKCTC Offering Flexibility with September and October Classes

Paducah, KY (09/09/2019) — When thinking of beginning a college experience, many may think of 18-19-year-old students flooding campuses on the first days in August to begin their new educational journey. While that is true for West Kentucky Community and Technical College, nontraditional students also fill the campus to begin or continue their journey toward a better life through education.

Opportunities to begin college classes at WKCTC go beyond the usual fall registration schedule to offer flexible class start dates. Classes this fall will be offered beginning September 16 and October 14. The 12-week and eight-week classes are offered both online and on campus.

"We have several general education courses available that count toward a college credential at WKCTC," said Emily Peck, WKCTC vice president of student affairs. "The classes that begin next week and in October are a great way to start."

Available classes include, but are not limited to, Basic Public Speaking, Contemporary Economic Issues, World Civilization, and Philosophy through Pop Culture.

Anyone interested in registering for classes that begin September 16 or October 14 can visit the WKCTC Advising Center located in the Anderson Technical Building. The center is open Monday, 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Individuals who need to earn their GED can also sign up for classes at WKCTC, and can earn a college credential and a GED at the same time through a program called GED +. The Kentucky Work Ready Scholarship, which pays for tuition, can be available for GED + in five high wage, high demand fields: healthcare, advanced manufacturing, transportation and logistics, business services and information technology, construction and trades. Anyone interested in these fields and would like to know more about GED +, should contact Tammy Maines, WKCTC Skills U coordinator at tammy.maines@kctcs.edu or 270-534-3156. More information can also be found at gedplusky.org.

For more information about September and October classes, call 270-534-3435.
