WKCTC recognized its 2020-2021 Honors Recipients, May 15
West Kentucky Community and Technical College recognized its 2020-2021 honors students during a virtual tribute today on the college's Facebook page and YouTube channel May 15, 2021. More than 70 WKCTC students were recognized in a variety of subject areas for outstanding achievement. The complete list of honors recipients can be viewed online and can be seen in alphabetical order by award and county. The college produced the tribute video to help recognize the accomplishments of this year's honors students, as an in-person celebration could not be held due to COVID-19 restrictions. Student honors recipients were asked to submit photos for the video. "Through this video tribute, we want to salute you, our distinguished students, and celebrate your accomplishments with family and friends," said WKCTC President Anton Reece. Speakers on the virtual program were Dr. Reece; Carrie Hopper, dean of allied health and personal services; Stephanie Milliken, dean of applied technologies; Britton Shurley, dean of humanities, fine arts, business and social science; Dr. Shari Gholson, dean of nursing; Heather Coltharp, dean of science, math and computer information technologies; Dr. Kevin Gericke, retired Phi Theta Kappa advisor and professor; and Amy Elmore, student life coordinator. WKCTC faculty and staff introduced the names of each of the award winners in more than 25 categories.

WKCTC Announces 2020 Honor Students
West Kentucky Community and Technical College recognized its 2019-2020 honor students during a virtual tribute May 20. More than 90 WKCTC students were recognized on the college's Facebook channel in a variety of subject areas for outstanding achievement. WKCTC Diesel Technology Students Earn Biodiesel Certification
Eighteen diesel technology students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College recently earned a biodiesel certification from the Kentucky Soybean Board and the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). The students were presented with their certificates during a presentation at the college's Purchase Area Training Center on November 29, 2018.

60 WKCTC Students Receive Nursing Pins at 2018 Spring Commencement Ceremony
Congratulations to the 60 nursing students who recently received their nursing pins at West Kentucky Community and Technical College's 2018 Spring Commencement! Thirty-four WKCTC students received pins representing the completion of the associate degree in nursing program and 26 received pins representing the completion of the practical nursing program. Congrats everyone on your fantastic accomplishment!

WKCTC's Emily Sands Named 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar
Emily Sands, a sophomore at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, has been selected as a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar. A Paducah resident, Sands will receive a $1,500 scholarship for fall 2018. Selection as a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar was based on scores Sands earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this year. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Congratulations Emily!

Brandon Gosset first WKCTC collision repair technology student to earn I-CAR certifcation
Paducah resident Brandon Gossett is the first student at West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) to receive I-CAR Pro Level 1 certification in painting and refinishing. Gossett's accomplishment of receiving the industry-recognized certification was announced during the November 16 ceremony naming the Collision Repair Technology Classroom at WKCTC in memory of B.A. Hamilton

Sixty-five nursing students crossed the Carson Center stage on May 6 to receive nursing pins in their respective programs with 41 receiving pins representing the completion of the associate degree in nursing (ADN) program and 24 receiving pins representing the completion of the practical nursing program (LPN). WKCTC Diesel Technology Students Complete Biodiesel Training Offered by the Kentucky Soybean Board
Twenty-four West Kentucky Community and Technical College diesel students received certificates upon completing a biodiesel training course provided by the Kentucky Soybean Board. The board donated $500 to WKCTC for the college's Diesel Technology program and the biodiesel training course. Congrats to all the students!

WKCTC Student Named to 2015 KPTA All-Academic Team
Jason Kirks of Murray is one of twelve students across Kentucky to be named to the 2015 Kentucky Physical Therapy Association All-Academic Team. "I am privileged to be selected to the 2015 KPTA All Academic Team," said 32 year-old Kirks, a 2001 Calloway County High School graduate and United States Air Force veteran. "It means so much to be recognized for this honor." Students are chosen for the competitive team based upon academic and clinical performance, extracurricular, campus and community service activities, participation in physical therapy-related activities and organizations, and a personal statement discussing the student's career goals and the importance of being an advocate for the physical therapy profession.

Heather Vandiver Named to the 2015 All-USA Community College Academic Team
Heather Vandiver of Paducah was one of two West Kentucky Community and Technical College students named to the 2015 All-USA Community College Academic Team. All-USA Team members are selected by USA TODAY and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. The award is presented to exceptional students at the nation's community colleges with consideration of grades, academic rigor, growth and how well the students use their education to benefit their schools and communities. "I am honored to be awarded the opportunity to be an ALL-USA Academic Team member," said Heather, 25, a Hopkins County Central High School graduate. "From all that I have achieved, it is rewarding for me just to have made it this far. I thought I would never be in college. I thought I would never have the chance." In addition to the All-USA honor, Heather recently received an Outstanding Achievement in Business Administration award and a Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges award. Way to go, Heather!

Cassandra Grace Named to ALL-USA Community College Academic Team
Cassandra Grace of Boaz was one of two West Kentucky Community and Technical College students named to the 2015 All-USA Community College Academic Team. Graduating from WKCTC in December 2014 with an Associate in Applied Science degree in medical information technologies, Cassandra was recently hired as a medical coding specialist with Lourdes Mercy Health. Her future plans include possibly returning to college to earn a bachelor's degree. Congratulations Cassandra!
