Accreditation Reaffirmed for WKCTC
Paducah, KY (07/23/2018) — The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) recently announced that West Kentucky Community and Technical College's accreditation has been confirmed following a comprehensive review of the college's academic and administrative programs.
"Reaffirmation of accreditation is very important because it signifies that the programs at our college meet high standards as the result of a rigorous external review process," said WKCTC President Anton Reece.
The SACSCOC Board of Trustees reaffirmed WKCTC's accreditation at its June 14, 2018 board meeting in Decatur, Ga. The college received reaffirmation of its accreditation through 2028.
The SACSCOC accreditation standards review institutional integrity, effective governance, financial sustainability and appropriate student support services. This multi-year process begins with a thorough internal review, followed by an external team review of the university's report and finally an on-campus visit by a group of evaluators from other SACSCOC institutions.
SACSCOC accreditation also determines an institution's eligibility to receive federal funding for student financial aid and its ability to accept transfer academic credits from other colleges and universities.
SACSCOC, the largest of the nation's regional accreditors, is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degrees. The Commission on Colleges' Board of Trustees is the representative body of the College Delegate Assembly and is charged with carrying out the accreditation process.
