Earth Day and Earth Week Celebrations at WKCTC and Paducah Farmers Market

Paducah, KY (04/10/2025) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College will celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week this month with a series of events designed to engage students, staff, faculty, and the local community in environmental sustainability and the appreciation of nature.

The kickoff to the week coincides with the seasonal opening of the Paducah Farmers Market in downtown Paducah. From 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, WKCTC will again host a variety of activities including:

  • Farmers Market Vendors
  • Live Music
  • WKCTC Clubs and Organizations
  • Campus and Community Resources
  • Family-Friendly Activities

Additional Earth Week activities on the WKCTC campus from April 21-25, include:

  • Book Display & Pollinator Seed Handout at Matheson Library (available for faculty, staff, and students all week)
  • Nature Walk & Geocache Hunt on the WKCTC Nature Trail (open to the community, with a chance to win a WKCTC Pathfinder Tumbler)
  • Tree Identification Sessions & Planting on April 22 and April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the WKCTC Nature Trail
  • Pets to Destress event on April 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. outside Haws Gymnasium

"People can look foward to a week of activities celebrating Earth Day, including community events, educational sessions, and enviromental initiatives," said Dr. Anna Vaughn-Doom, Assistant Professor of Biology at the college. "The celebration will feature opportunities to engage with sustainability efforts, connect with nature, and participate in interactive experiences. It will be a chance for individuals and groups to learn, contribute, and enjoy activities focused on protecting the planet."

The Earth Day and Earth Week events at WKCTC are open to all, and Dr. Vaughn-Doom encourages the community to participate. "These activities provide a fun and educational way to connect with the environment and learn how simple actions can make a lasting impact on sustainability," Vaugh-Doom said.
