Tibetan Monk returns to speak at WKCTC February 26

Paducah, KY (02/23/2024) — Tibetan monk Tsering Phuntsok returns to West Kentucky Community and Technical College February 26 at 7 p.m. in Crounse Hall, Room 101.

Phuntsok, a practicing Buddhist monk since age 16, will present a free public talk about his travels and culture. He lives in a monastery in Nepal, where he trains other monks. Phuntsok also travels the world to work with Tibetan refugees. He is fluent in several languages and gives presentations at universities throughout the world. At the talk at WKCTC on February 26, he will discuss Buddhism and Himalayan culture.

Jane Wells, a psychology instructor at WKCTC, noted that Phuntsok's return to campus continues to introduce WKCTC students, faculty, staff and the community to diverse cultures. "His talk will also emphasize the significance of healing through mindfulness and chanting, offering a method to cope with life's pressures," Wells added.

Phuntsok entered the Palyul Choekhorling Nyingmapa monastery in Bir, India, in 1987. For the first 17 years, he studied and practiced the Nyingmapa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, receiving training in meditation, Buddhist scripture and philosophy, tantric ritual, lama dancing and music.
