WKCTC Automotive Technology Student Wins Motorsports Video Competition
Paducah, KY (07/15/2017) — Graves County resident Kyle Clapp was selected this year's winner of the "in the Pits" video competition by the onsite and online training program, Technician Academy. Clapp of Dublin is a senior student in the automotive technology program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah.
An avid drag racing fan, Clapp, 21, has been drag racing since he was a kid, winning his first title at the age of 8.
WKCTC automotive technology associate professor Robert Gunn said Clapp has won several drag racing championships and has been called the "King of the Drag Strip." In his semifinalist video, Clapp said it would make his drag racing dream come true to win the "In the Pits" competition.
Four finalists were asked to submit to the academy short videos that highlighed their interest in motorsports, any possible interactions with the sport they have had, and why they felt they deserved to win. Officials said Clapp was unaniomously selected based on his impressive background and passion for motorsports.
Clapp will spend a weekend at the St. Louis Gateway Motorsports Park drag strip July 22-23 and will work in the pits with the Randy Meyer Racing team, handling Megan Meye's Top Alcohol dragster and hanging with the pit crew.
Clapp expects to graduate in December from WKCTC with associate in applied science degree in automotive technology.
