Paducah, KY (03/27/2019) — April is National Poetry Month and West Kentucky Community and Technical College is observing the month with a multicultural celebration April 15.
Dr. Jeremy Paden, a professor of Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Transylvania University in Lexington, will be the speaker for the April 15 celebration. He will speak at 11 a.m. in the college's Matheson Library and at 4 p.m. in the Bill Ford Gallery located at WKCTC's Paducah School of Art and Design 2D and Graphic Design Building, 905 Harrison Street.
Dr. Paden is a member of the Affrilachian poets and his area of research include Latin American poetry, Colonial Latin American literature, and the Latin American essay. During his two free presentations, Dr. Paden will read from his recent works and respond to audience questions. He will also discuss the Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal, who studied under Trappist monk Thomas Merton.
"We are looking forward to Dr. Paden's visit with us on April 15 for National Poetry Month. He is an accomplished poet, professor and speaker, and having him in Paducah to share his works will be wonderful," said Carolyn Perry, WKCTC Spanish professor and event co-organizer. "A special thanks to WKCTC's Amelia Martens, noted poet and sponsor of the college's Exit 7: A Journal of Literature and Art, for helping to bring Dr. Paden to campus."
The events are sponsored by WKCTC's Department of Foreign Languages; the Hispanic Honor Society, "Sociedad Honoraria la Lengua Espanola," the Diversity and Inclusion committee and Exit 7.
