WKCTC Celebrates National Poetry Month with Poetry Jam and Concert in April
Paducah, KY (03/24/2017) — Next month West Kentucky Community and Technical College will celebrate National Poetry Month, which takes place each April as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States.
First, the college's Clemens Fine Arts Center is partnering with local spoken word artists from the Paducah Writers Group (PWG) to host a poetry jam Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Paducah School of Art and Design's 2D and Graphic Design Building, located at 905 Harrison Street in Lowertown.
Paducah Writers Group has performed at poetry jams, open mics, and various venues in the community. The group produced and recorded a full album of spoken word titled, "Poetic JustUs," and are currently recording a new album at PSAD's recording studio.
PWG artists featured in the April 7 poetry jam include J Skrilla, Tonya "Touchtone" Shelton, Tylr Taylor Griggar, Samuel "Snacks" Hawkins, and Chloe Quint.
Ticket are $5 and can be purchased now by calling Julie Moore at (270) 534-3212 or at the door April 7. A light complimentary dessert is included with admission.
The partnership with the Paducah Writers Group continues with the Langston Hughes Project: "Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz," featuring the Ron McCurdy Quartet Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clemens Fine Arts Center. PWG poets will open the show and share their works with the audience. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children and students. The center is located at 4810 Alben Barkley Drive in Paducah.
