WKCTC Hosting Open House for Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program

WKCTC MEDIA RELEASE: Paducah, KY (06/22/2017) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College is hosting an open house next month to discuss and answer questions about the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship (WRKS) Program.

The open house will be held Thursday, July 13 from 3 - 6 p.m. in the Anderson Technical Building.

The scholarship, established by Governor Bevin, pays tuition for five career-related fields that are in high demand with employers. Designed to get students on the fast track to better paying jobs. The WKRS is focused on programs in health care, advanced manufacturing, transportation/logistics, business services/IT, and construction fields.

"The idea for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship is provide Kentucky residents the opportunity to enter these fields so they can get in, get out and get to work quickly, and to do that without having to pay for tuition," said Dr. Nate Slaton, WKCTC vice president of enrollment management. "This open house is a chance for us to answer questions about the program and to help students take advantage of this great opportunity."

Through the scholarship, students may complete up to 32 hours of course work and must obtain at least one certificate in a program within the five designated industry sectors. The WKRS is awarded on first-come, first-served basis, and those eligible can receive the scholarship for tuition after using available federal financial grants and third party scholarships.
