WKCTC Invites Community to Earth Day Celebration April 22

Paducah, KY (04/03/2019) — Since it began in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 worldwide with various events held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Earth Day now includes events in more than 193 countries.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Earth Day events are part of that April 22 celebration with a full day of events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college's Student Center and Clemens Fine Arts Center. Both locations are in the same building.

Visitors to WKCTC's Earth Day Celebration can learn about a variety of topics from the college faculty and staff and area environmental organizations including:

  • identifying trees
  • NASA and the Earth
  • seminar on toxic algae
  • water quality testing
  • wildlife refuge and animal identification
  • nature hikes and natural areas to explore
  • a cooking demonstration: River to Table - Invasive Asian Carp, and much more.

The event is sponsored by the WKCTC Sustainability Committee, Earth Day Task Force, and Paducah Junior College Foundation. They wish to thank the supporting groups participating in the Earth Day Celebration.

"We are excited about this year's Earth Day Celebration and all the great learning opportunities and conversations the day will bring about the importance of our environment," said Dr. Bobby Ann Lee, WKCTC biology professor and Sustainability Committee chair. "Not only do we invite everyone in the community to join us, but we will also welcome more than 100 area high school students to the celebration. It will be a fun and educational experience on campus."
