Community invited to attend

Paducah, KY (10/05/2019) — West Kentucky Community and Technical College is hosting a workshop focused on providing information and training to building awareness and celebrate individuals' cultural and diverse differences.

WKCTC students, faculty, staff and non-profit organization representatives are invited to the free, two-hour professional development workshop October 18 in the college's Emerging Technology Center, Room 109. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. - noon and again from 1 - 3 p.m. Chevene Duncan-Herring, WKCTC's Diversity and Inclusion director, along with Gabriela Cano, Lotus Outreach Advocate, will be the workshop presenters.

The event titled, Embracing Our Differences: "It's a Mind Change," will examine diversity with respect to individuals from different races, religions, languages, lifestyles and other unique characteristics. The training is structured around concepts of awareness, acceptance and respect. The training is based on a cultural awareness approach to encourage participants to respect others in the classroom, in the workplace and social settings.

At the end of the training participants will be able to define cultural awareness, build cultural knowledge, identify characteristics of implicit biases and implement cultural knowledge to promote positive interactions with others in the classroom, in the workplace and social settings.
