Eight WKCTC Students Inducted into New Chapter of Hispanic Honor Society
Eight West Kentucky Community and Technical College students were inducted into the college's newly formed National Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi's Sociedad Honoraria de la Lengua Espanola(SHLE). The induction ceremony was held April 26, 2018. Congratulations everyone!

Meagan Millsap interns with Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition
West Kentucky Community and Technical College student Meagan Millsap of Paducah recently received a paid internship with the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition. The coalition is a non-profit organization with the goal of informing young Kentuckians on effective ways to have their voices heard about issues regarding the environment and political activism. WKCTC Professor Bobby Ann Lee recommended Meagan for the internship. Meagan plans to study environmental issues as a career. Congratulations Meagan!

WKCTC Students and Faculty Attend Murray State University Conference
Fourteen West Kentucky Community and Technical College students participated in the annual "Patterns of Distinction - Security Matters" conference co-sponsored by the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management at Murray State University Thursday, April 26, highlighting the importance of security in small businesses. The conference was co-hosted with Community Financial Services Bank.

WKCTC's Emily Sands Named 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar
Emily Sands, a sophomore at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, has been selected as a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar. A Paducah resident, Sands will receive a $1,500 scholarship for fall 2018. Selection as a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar was based on scores Sands earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this year. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Congratulations Emily!

WKCTC's Lakin Smith and Emily Swinford are this year's March Registration Madness grand prize winners! Lakin won $500 toward 2018 summer tuition and Emily won $750 toward 2018 fall tuition. Lakin and Emily, both of Paducah, received their March Registration Madness grand prize certificates with WKCTC President Dr. Anton Reece on Friday, April 6. Congratulations ladies!

WKCTC Students Promote Kindergarten Readiness at 2018 Kindergarten Ready Fair
Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College were involved in activities to promote kindergarten readiness at the 2018 Kindergarten Ready Fair on March 24, 2018. During the fair held in WKCTC's Haws Gym, the students played math concept games, participated in health and wellness informative activities, and assisted "Pete the Cat" as he entertained the children. The WKCTC students also handed out door prizes and guided families to the 30-different vendor and activity tables at the fair. Paducah's Gavin Posey has been named West Kentucky Community and Technical College's 2017 Student of the Year. Gavin was one of five previous Student of the Month winners nominated for the award. Student of the Month winners were selected between February and November 2017 with Gavin winning in November. Way to go Gavin!

Students in West Kentucky Community and Technical College's surgical technology program recently provided more than 300 area senior citizens with holiday gifts. Debbie Swain, WKCTC's surgical technology program coordinator, said the students were able to distributed gifts through Paducah Family Services. West Kentucky Community and Technical College recognized more than 190 candidates for graduation who participated in its Fall Commencement Ceremony December 11, 2017 at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. More than 1,200 WKCTC students were eligible to receive associate degrees, diplomas or certificates during the Fall 2017.

PTA Students at WKCTC Donate Skeleton to Program Lab
In early December 2017, WKCTC's 2018 physical therapist assistant graduating class donated a new skeleton to the PTA program to use in its kinesiology lab. The students paid for the skeleton themselves as a Christmas gift to the program! Awesome!

WKCTC Nursing Students Donate to Local Recovery Center
The officers from West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Kentucky Association of Nursing Students (KANS) made a philanthropic contribution to Centerpoint Recovery Center for Men on Tuesday November 21, 2017. Through several fundraising activities, KANS was able to contribute $1000 to this facility. Centerpoint Recovery Center is a Recovery Kentucky residential long term recovery center for men struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. It is a peer-driven community that includes a transitional phase back into society and is part of Four Rivers Behavioral Health. Hard work pays off for WKCTC Radiography Students
The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Paducah generously donated $2,475 to West Kentucky Community and Technical College's radiography students for helping out with this year's BBQ on the River. The students will be using these funds to help offset the cost of taking their national registry exam, with a portion of the funds going to charity! Congratulations to the WKCTC radiography program and students!

Mexico native Edson A. Blanco of Mayfield described the importance of West Kentucky Community and Technical College's collision repair program to him during the November 16 ceremony naming the Collision Repair Technology Classroom at WKCTC in memory of B.A. Hamilton.

Paducah resident Brandon Gossett is the first student at West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) to receive I-CAR Pro Level 1 certification in painting and refinishing. WKCTC Nursing and PTA Students Volunteered at 2017 Diabetes Expo
Nursing and physical therapist assistant students from West Kentucky Community and Technical College worked with patients at the 2017 Purchase Area Diabetes Expo held at the McCracken County Extension office on October 28, 2017. Nursing students performed A1C (diabetes) tests and the PTA students performed foot screenings for peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Over 30 people were screened. On Friday, September 29, 2017, the dental assisting class at West Kentucky Community and Technical College volunteered to serve in Paducah's Community Kitchen. Over 200 people received a hot meal, along with oral hygiene instructions, toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. Way to go!
