WKCTC Nursing Students Receive Pins at Pinning Ceremony

Sixty-five nursing students crossed the Carson Center stage on May 6 to receive nursing pins in their respective programs with 41 receiving pins representing the completion of the associate degree in nursing (ADN) program and 24 receiving pins representing the completion of the practical nursing program (LPN). Congratulations!!!

West Kentucky Community and Technical College recognized more than 200 candidates for graduation who participated in its Spring Commencement Ceremonies May 6, 2017 at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. More than 700 WKCTC students were eligible to receive an associate degree, diploma or certificate.

WKCTC Students Attend CIT Security Conference at MSU

Ten WKCTC Computer Information Technology students attended the Patterns of Distinction - Security Matters conference held at Murray State University on April 27. WKCTC student participants from the CIT 180 Introduction to Security class had the opportunity to meet with many local business an industry professionals and talk with other MSU faculty and students. The conference included nationally recognized presenters who discussed topics such as "Threats that Matter", "Organizing Information Security at the State Level", and "Inside the Mind of Hackers".

WKCTC March Registration Madness Grand Prize Winner

Jessica Goff won WKCTC's March Registration Madness grand prize - a $500 scholarship! She registered for 2017 summer and fall classes at the college during the March registration event. She was so excited to win! "This is so great; I never win anything." Jessica, a 2013 graduate of Graves County High School, wants to be a nurse and will apply to WKCTC's nursing program this fall. Congratulations Jessica!

Four West Kentucky Community and Technical College students won several awards at the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Nashville April 8-9, 2017. The college's PTK chapter chapter received First Runner Up for the Honors in Action Project, Kentucky Region, and First Place in the Distinguished Theme: Rights and Responsibilities, Kentucky Region. Congrats Team!

WKCTC Students Help Raise Money to Study Abroad in El Salvador

Fifteen West Kentucky Community and Technical College students helped make the college's recent Share the Love Auction a success. More than 70 people attended the auction, which raised over $7500 to send the students to El Salvador during this year's Spring Break to learn about diverse cultures and to help families in need.

WKCTC Diesel Technology Students Complete Biodiesel Training Offered by the Kentucky Soybean Board

Twenty-four West Kentucky Community and Technical College diesel students received certificates upon completing a biodiesel training course provided by the Kentucky Soybean Board. The board donated $500 to WKCTC for the college's Diesel Technology program and the biodiesel training course. Congrats to all the students!

Amelia Martens Receives $3,000 Artist Enrichment Grant

Congratulations Amelia Martens!Amelia recently received an Artist Enrichment Grant by the Kentucky Foundation of Women. She was awarded $3,000 to attend a southern writers' conference, where she will revise and workshop her poems, and to complete a book length poetry collection addressing the conflicts encountered by a mother raising daughters in the current social-political-cultural climate of the American mid-south.

WKCTC Names New Diversity and Inclusion Director

Chevene Duncan-Herring of Paducah has been named the new diversity and inclusion director at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. Duncan-Herring is no stranger to WKCTC or diversity and inclusion principles. She has worked in many capacities in both areas at the college prior to accepting the new director's position. Since being hired at the college in 2012, Duncan-Herring has served as program facilitator of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Grant, through the US Department of Labor in partnership with the US Department of Education. Through the grant, Duncan-Herring worked closely with dislocated workers from Paducah and surrounding communities who enrolled at WKCTC. She has also been the director of the West Kentucky Identifying Needs Guiding Success (WINGS) and Governor's Minority Student College Preparation Program, with duties including the creation and implementation of comprehensive cultural diverse program within the college and community with minority and underrepresented middle school students. Holding a master's degree in education from Nashville's Trevecca Nazarene University and a bachelor's degree in counseling psychology from Rochester College in Michigan, Duncan-Herring has also served as a success coach, education counselor and adjunct faculty member at WKCTC. "Now it's time for a new chapter, and I'm excited about the opportunity," said Duncan-Herring. "I look forward to increasing our campus and community cultural diversity and inclusion awareness; balancing (WKCTC students, employees and community members) self-awareness and community acceptance of others."

WKCTC Students Named To Fall 2016 Dean's List

The following students have earned recognition for their academic work by being named to the West Kentucky Community and Technical College Dean's List for the Fall 2016 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must be a full-time WKCTC student earning at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and successfully completing 12 hours or more of course work numbered 100 or above for the academic term.

WKCTC Radiography Students "Pay it Forward"

Since the WKCTC fall semester began in August, radiography students in the Class of 2017 have been fund raising to help pay for certification examinations and to give back to the community. They have raised money for Kosair Children's Hospital, and also decided to "pay it forward" for future radiography students. Great work!!

WKCTC Radiography Students Donate to Children's Hospital

Radiography students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College recently helped coordinate the "Skeleton Scramble" at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter. The scramble raised $3,900 to help pay for costs associated with the students' Kettering Registry Review and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination. The students also donated 10% to Kosair Children's Hospital. Way to go to a great group of students!
