Surgical Students Complete Successful Toy Drive

WKCTC Students Named To Spring 2016 Dean's List

The following students have earned recognition for their academic work by being named to the West Kentucky Community and Technical College Dean's List for the Spring 2016 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must be a full-time WKCTC student earning at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and successfully completing 12 hours or more of course work numbered 100 or above for the academic term.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College recognized more than 200 candidates for graduation who participated in its Spring Commencement Ceremonies May 7, 2015 at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. More than 780 WKCTC students were eligible to receive an associate degree, diploma or certificate.

WKCTC Sonography Students Support St. Jude's Children's Hospital

AEB Students Raised Funds for Child Watch

Students in WKCTC's Alpha Epsilon Beta, the local chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association, raised $2000 this year with its 5K Fun Run. This makes a grand total of $7300 the students have raised for Child Watch through races over the last 5 years. Their goal next year is to make it to the $10,000 mark! WKCTC Practical Nursing students volunteered for Hugs Project

Seven nursing students in WKCTC's chapter of the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses (NFLPN) recently volunteered to help the Hugs Project of Western Kentucky with clean up, sorting and packaging. Several of the nurses' children and loved ones also helped. The Hugs Project of Western Kentucky is a 100% volunteer organization funded solely on donations, and sends care packages to deployed soldiers. WKCTC's dental assisting students celebrated Dental Assisting Recognition Week March 7-11, 2016. The students visited their clinical sites, delivered thank you packages with their own special cake creations and all students completed thank you cards and sent to all clinical sites. Georgiana Roberts Named WKCTC Student of the Year

Congratulations to Georgiana Roberts of Mayfield for recently being named 2015 Student of the Year at West Kentucky Community and Technical College! Selection of the Student of the Year is based on continuous academic performance, active participation in various student organizational activities and community service, while exhibiting a positive and encouraging attitude. Students had to maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 or higher and must have held and been successful in a significant leadership role on campus or within the community.

Four Alpha Epsilon Beta students recently volunteered at Paducah's Community Kitchen to help feed the homeless. "We are so proud ot these young ladies. Our students are always looking for ways to give back to the community," said Gary Reese, AEB advisor. AEB is WKCTC's local chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association. Congratulations to Skylar Nunley on winning the Kentucky Education Association-Student Program Marvin Dodson-Carl Perkins Scholarship for 2016. The KEA Student Program is a professional association for college students preparing to enter the teaching profession. It has members at 36 Kentucky colleges and universities.

Medical Laboratory Technician Students Support Ronald McDonald House

Medical Laboratory Technician students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College recently donated $375 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The students raised money over the last year through several fundraisers and made their donation to Ronald McDonald House representative during a presentation at the college on December 4.

First Students pass the AWS Accredited Welding Test at WKCTC

Three welding students recently were the first to pass their American Welding Society D1.1 Unlimited Test at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. WKCTC recently completed accreditation to become an Accredited Test Facility (ATF) for the American Welding Society. The college is one of only four accredited testing facilities (ATF) for the AWS in Kentucky.

Dental students at WKCTC help promote good oral health maintenance

Twelve dental assisting/dental hygiene students celebrated Dental Hygiene Recognition Month in October 2015. The students set up a booth in the Allied Health Building to promote this year's focus of four components of proper oral health maintenance. The student promoted "Doing the Daily 4" which are: brushing twice a day, flossing daily, rinsing with antimicrobial rinse and chewing sugar-free gum.

WKCTC Students Celebrate Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month

Twenty-three West Kentucky Community and Technical College diagnostic medical sonography (DMS) students celebrated Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) throughout October 2015. The students delivered sweet treats and snacks to their clinical instructors at various clinical sites and celebrated with a potluck luncheon. They also participated in providing hands-on demonstrations to area high school students at WKCTC's 2015 Open House. The first year DMS students hosted a bake sale on campus and raised over $230 to help fund their registry exams. MUAM is held annually in October to create awareness of the role diagnostic medical sonographers play in the medical community and to educate the public about medical ultrasound and its many uses in healthcare.

WKCTC Students Graduate Citizens Police Academy class

Seven West Kentucky Community & Technical College recently graduated from the Paducah Police Department's 20th Citizens Police Academy. The 13-week class provides people, especially criminal justices students, with insight into how the Paducah Police Department operates, what the police can do and why the police do what they do.
